Daniel Casey was born on June 1, 1972, in Stockton-on-Tees, England. He is the son of journalist and television presenter Luke Casey.
He attended Grey College, Durham University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature before deciding to pursue a professional acting career.
He began performing on stage with a touring production of Dead Fish, where he was spotted by a casting director.
Career
Daniel Casey‘s television breakthrough came with the role of Anthony Cox in Our Friends in the North. In 1997, he was cast as DS Gavin Troy, the original detective sergeant alongside DCI Tom Barnaby, in Midsomer Murders.
He remained a series regular until 2003 and later returned for a guest appearance in 2008, making the character one of the show’s most memorable detectives.
