Gautham Vasudev Menon was born on February 25, 1973, in Ottapalam, Kerala. He is the son of Vasudeva Menon, Uma Menon.

His romantic drama Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa became another major achievement, while Ye Maaya Chesave expanded his work into Telugu cinema.
He later directed Neethaane En Ponvasantham, Yennai Arindhaal, Achcham Yenbadhu Madamaiyada, Enai Noki Paayum Thota, and Vendhu Thanindhathu Kaadu.
