Early Life and Education
Joseph Williams was born on 1 September 1960 in Santa Monica, California, United States, to acclaimed film composer John Williams, actress Barbara Ruick.
He is the youngest of three children, with an older brother, Mark Towner Williams, an older sister, Jennifer Williams. His mother passed away when he was young.

Career
Joseph Williams began performing as a radio, television commercial singer in his mid-teens, released his self-titled debut solo album in 1982.
In 1986 he joined Toto as lead vocalist, recording the albums Fahrenheit (1986), The Seventh One (1988). He left the band in 1988 due to personal challenges but remained on good terms with the members, contributed to later projects, including Toto XX (1998), a shared lead vocal on Falling in Between (2006).
He rejoined Toto in 2010, has served as frontman ever since, appearing on studio albums such as Toto XIV (2015), subsequent live releases.
Parallel to his band work he has released multiple solo albums, collaborated with projects including the Intelligent Music Project, CWF (with Bill Champlin, Peter Friestedt), built a substantial career as a session vocalist, film/television composer.
His most widely recognized session contribution is the adult singing voice of Simba on “Hakuna Matata”, “Can You Feel the Love Tonight” in Disney’s The Lion King (1994).
