Lahmard Tate was born on January 7, 1970, in Chicago, Illinois, United States, to Larry Tate and Peggy Tate, before the family relocated to California.
He grew up alongside his brothers, Larron Tate and Larenz Tate, who also became actors. He attended Palmdale High School and later trained at the Inner City Cultural Center.
