Early Life

Shalini grew up in New Delhi, moving between Greater Kailash and Jor Bagh. Her family had a serious legacy in construction and architecture. Her grandfather, a devout Arya Samaji, built some of Delhi’s most recognizable structures, including Palika Bazar, Vayu Bhavan, and the Doordarshan building.

Her grandparents came from Gujranwala, in what is now Pakistan. Her grandfather had studied at Lahore College and moved the family before Partition, sensing the instability early. She attended Modern School on Barakhamba Road, one of Delhi’s most prestigious institutions. Controversies

Two legal matters have drawn public attention in recent years. In 2025, the Directorate General of GST Intelligence summoned her in connection with an alleged GST short-payment inquiry involving Pasco Motors LLP. Her husband’s lawyer denied the allegations and said the matter was already being challenged and was sub judice. No liability has been established.

Separately, the Orissa High Court granted her interim relief in August 2026 in a case tied to an alleged 2021 photograph taken inside the restricted area of the Jagannath Temple in Puri. She challenged the criminal proceedings in the High Court. The case remains pending.
