Education

Shashank completed his school education in Chhattisgarh. Later, he earned a Master’s degree in Commerce from Acharya College, Pondicherry, in 2017. However, he wasn’t very interested in studies and loved playing cricket more.

Family

Shashank’s father, Shailesh Singh, was an IPS officer, and his mother, Sunita Singh, worked at Reliance. He has a sister named Shrutika Singh, who works at ONGC in Mumbai.

Cricket Career

Shashank began his first-class cricket career in 2015. He played for Mumbai’s domestic team from 2015 to 2018. His debut was on December 10, 2015, in the Vijay Hazare Trophy for Mumbai. Later, he wasn’t getting enough chances to play, so he took an NOC (No Objection Certificate) from the Mumbai Cricket Board and joined Pondicherry’s team. He played for Pondicherry from 2018 to 2019 but didn’t get much playing time there either.

After that, Shashank took another NOC and started playing for Chhattisgarh. He made his first-class debut for Chhattisgarh in the 2019-20 Ranji Trophy and has been playing for them consistently since. In the 2023-24 Vijay Hazare Trophy, he had an amazing performance against Manipur, scoring 150 runs and taking 5 wickets. He became the first Indian List A cricketer to achieve this feat.

Shashank started his IPL career in 2017 with Delhi Daredevils but didn’t get many matches and couldn’t stay long. In 2019-20, he joined Rajasthan Royals, but he didn’t gain much recognition there either. In 2022, Sunrisers Hyderabad picked him, but he still didn’t get enough chances to play.

In 2024, Punjab Kings bought Shashank, and this was his breakthrough year. He became a brilliant “finisher” for the team, hitting 28 fours and 21 sixes with a strike rate of 164.65, winning several matches for Punjab Kings single-handedly. This made him a popular name. Thanks to his great performance, Punjab Kings retained him for IPL 2025 for 5.5 crore rupees. The good news is that Punjab Kings reached the playoffs this year, and Shashank is maintaining his 2024 form. His amazing batting has caught everyone’s attention.
